Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy at Strides Maplewood

Speech therapy is the evaluation and treatment of communication problems and speech disorders. It is performed by speech-language pathologists (SLPs), which are often referred to as speech therapists. Speech therapy techniques are used to improve communication. These include articulation therapy, language intervention activities, and others depending on the type of speech or language disorders.

Why do you need speech therapy?

There are many reasons why you might have a speech or language problem. Although children may have speech development issues, adults can struggle with speech problems too. Adults can develop speech problems after an illness or injury. Speech-language pathologists, or SLPs, can usually help.

At Strides, our speech therapist evaluate and treat a number of different speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders. For example, if a patient has slurred speech due to a stroke, head injury, or neurological disease, we can help improve speech sound production. We can also help patients deal with language issues, such as trouble finding the right words or difficulty forming complete statements. In addition, we work with patients with cognitive difficulties, including problems with short-term memory, organization, and planning.
